There was a Dragon Nest demo somewhere hidden in the murky waters of the Mabination Forum (by now, at least), but since some of you might not have seen it or don't use Mabination, I've decided to post my opinion and additional Dragon Nest content here. I played the demo a few months ago, and though it is only a demo and I will apply regardless of my opinion on it, I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed in the game. The demo doesn't speak much for the game in all its entirety but here are my strong and weak points about it (I apologize for slight inaccuracy as I tried the demo a long time ago):
Pros:
- Interesting TPS-type interface (especially for archers)
- The ability to jump as part of evasion
- Special smash or heavy attacks and effects
- Gives off the feeling of a PS2 RPG game
- Characters have a nice cartoon-like appearance
- Actual strategy and timing
- Each character has interesting attacks
Cons:
- Gameplay is somewhat chunky
- Moves of the characters and the types of monsters are repetitive and you increasingly notice this as you go through the dungeon (this applies to Vindictus as well, but it is much more noticeable in this game)
- Gender lock
- Feels somewhat grindy
- Limited amount of skills
All in all, I think the game has its strong and weak points, but demo is demo. The actual game is a lot less limited and there are more skills, I quoteth!
My opinion on this game is still open-minded, but the tutorial has closed the gap just slightly. The game reminded me of a PC game called Fantasy Earth Zero, which totally fails.. so I hope Dragon Nest doesn't turn out to be like it :>!
EDIT: DEMO DOWNLOAD LINK NO LONGER FUNCTIONS.
You may still read about the interface and how to play, as well as what dungeons, monsters, characters look like - and some of the game functions, but the demo is no longer available. Sorry for any inconvenience caused!
The demo is in Japanese so you'll need to read or remember this guide thoroughly. Alternatively, you could keep this thread open for the instructions and ALT+F4. (It doesn't work for all games though, and I'm not entirely sure if it works for Dragon Nest.)
Enough yippity yapping from me though, here's the demo (and the respective guide)!
