    Speedtest Battle!

Post by Xcelled194 on Wed Nov 30, 2011 10:56 pm

So, as a geek, I like to compare/brag about odd stuff. So lets compare speedtests!

    Beat this!

Go to www.speedtest.net . You can basically check how well your connection does with ping, download and upload speed.

And Scott. That's f**king insane. Are you on FIOS? I forget if I asked this question already.

Laz, you win the pingtest! That means your connection time is superspeedy in terms of latency, you just can't move large files as fast as I can.

Yeah, Sase, FiOS <3 it says it right in the lower-left corner. LOL.

Sayu, your download rate is pretty decent, that's usually what counts, unless you do a lot of P2P file sharing.

I'd do a speed test too, but I absolutely can't trust the connection here at college. It's too unstable with all the people using it, so I'd rather do a reliable test at home.

Also, this "contest" to see who's fastest doesn't really work out unless it's based on 'best server' choice. What if we chose a specific location? Obviously this is heavily affected by location, but this still might help for pinging purposes for latency on Mabi or something (I'm just making an assumption that the Mari server location is somewhere in the West Coast, can anyone confirm?).

    Edit:

@Scott: I knew your provider was Verizon, just didn't know for sure if it was FIOS.

Yeah, sase, its automatically the closest server to you. If we all tested to the same server, it would screw the results. For example, it says I have a download of 3mps to San Francisco. Obviously, this isn't true, because some middleman server is slowing things down.
